Cada 17 de abril se conmemora la creación de la Cruz Roja Peruana, este día destacamos la gran labor y entrega de las personas que son parte de la institución en favor de la paz y salud mundial.
La Cruz Roja Peruana fue creada en el año 1879 a comienzos de la Guerra del Pacífico, con el fin de ayudar a las personas heridas durante el enfrentamiento. Actualmente, supera los 5 mil voluntarios a nivel nacional, sus actividades y operaciones se basan en los principios básicos de la Cruz Roja Internacional.
El origen de la Cruz Roja Peruana surgió inspirada en el servicio humanitario y la búsqueda de la atención a la población, velando por su salud, cuidado e integridad. Esto se visualizó en la ayuda que tuvieron todos los afectados en general en la Guerra del Pacifico entre Perú y Chile, donde los heridos de ambos bandos fueron atendidos sin distinción.
Su creación e instauración fue aprobada por el entonces presidente del Perú, Mariano Ignacio Prado, nombrando a la Junta Central de esta institución, que estuvo conformada por el monseñor José Antonio Roca y Boloña; y los galenos Manuel Odriozola y José Casimiro Ulloa.
Luego, el 30 de abril de 1880, el Consejo Federal Suizo, determina mediante decreto oficial, que el Perú ingresa al Movimiento de la Cruz Roja Internacional.
Asimismo, el 8 de mayo de 1880, el boletín N° 45 del Comité Internacional de la Cruz Roja, consta y se publica la certificación de que la Cruz Roja Peruana es la primera en surgir en América, y se menciona su fecha de nacimiento oficial, que es el 17 de abril de 1879.
En la actualidad, la Cruz Roja Peruana, como parte de la Cruz Roja Internacional, se dedica a auxiliar a víctimas de guerras o conflictos, a las personas afectadas por grandes desastres naturales (terremotos, inundaciones, erupciones volcánicas, etc.), y a las víctimas en situaciones de emergencia masiva, como: atentados terroristas, pestes, enfermedades, ect, sea en nuestro país, y en el mundo entero.
Por ello, recordar esta fecha nos impulsa e inspira a todos a ayudar a aquellos que han sido afectados por alguna emergencia o desastre, siguiendo el ejemplo de la Cruz Roja Peruana.
