El 6 de marzo se conmemora el Día de la Aviación Policial Peruana (Diravpol) y la creación de la Unidad de Transportes Operativos Especiales de la Guardia Civil. Se encarga de realizar los trabajos de coordinación, organización, dirección, planeamiento y del control de las operaciones áreas de la PNP.

La Dirección de Aviación Policial, está a cargo del entrenamiento y guía del personal. Asimismo, del mantenimiento y equipamiento de las aeronaves, y de llevar a cabo las actividades cívicas autorizadas por la superioridad.
La Unidad de Transportes Operativos Especiales de la Guardia Civil. (UTOE-GC) fue creada el 6 de marzo de 1984, al mando del general GC. Manuel Armando Landauro y Vasconez como jefe y logrando que, en 1984, sea seleccionada la primera promoción de pilotos policiales, conformada por 20 oficiales de policía. Ese mismo año fue donado un helicóptero Bell-47G para dos tripulantes.
Años después, en 1987 se crea la Dirección de Transporte Aeropolicial (DOTAP), con una oficina ubicada en la rampa sur del Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez. Así es que entre los años de 1984 y 1989, la PNP aumenta su parque aeronáutico. En 1990 el gobierno peruano realiza la primera adquisición de aeronaves para la policía que consistió en 6 helicópteros Bolkow.
Finalmente, en 1994, la Dipa (nombre en aquella época) fundamental aporte para el desarrollo de la función policial, apoyando en el rescate a heridos, salvamento en las playas, desbordes de ríos, interceptación de contrabandistas y combate del narcoterrorismo en el alto Huallaga.
