En esta fecha destacamos su labor y profesionalismo en ejecutar la doctrina económica, en el cual tienen el objetivo de la correcta distribución de los escasos recursos y así satisfacer las necesidades de la población peruana.
El 8 de abril de 1965, fue aprobada la Ley Nº 15488 por el presidente de la Republica Fernando Belaunde Terry, declarando como el Día del Economista peruano.
Desde hace 56 años, es una obligación legal, está amparada por la Constitución, que, para prestar servicio relativos a la profesión de economista, se cumpla con ambos requisitos: un título profesional y colegiatura.
Esta fecha reconocemos su labor y profesionalismo en el campo de la economía en todos los aspectos como: en la realización de estudios e investigaciones, servicios, solución de problemas y el asesoramiento de empresas.
Un economista es aquel profesional con capacidad y experto en el ámbito económico, que sabe aplicar, estudiar y analizar las causas y consecuencias de los cambios económicos que involucran los costos y beneficios, es mediante ello que interpreta, estructura y elabora modelos y leyes para beneficio de la sociedad.
El profesional de la economía debe manejar una amplia cantidad de información, y estas deben ser estudiadas para representar dentro de las ciencias económicas y así plasmar el conocimiento desde las teorías de los mercados específicos, el análisis macro y micro económico, análisis de los estados financieros, entre otros. Los economistas son los encargados de estudiar de como la sociedad distribuye los recursos, ya sea tierra, trabajo y capital para producir bienes y servicios.
A lo largo del día se pronuncia el colegio de economistas del Perú, donde organiza premiaciones a los más destacados economistas del Perú, en la cual conmemoran el día con una charla tocando temas de interés socioeconómico, proyectándose a futuras soluciones de la economía peruana, y así realizar nuevas estructuras de un mejor manejo de los recursos para bienestar del país.
