Cada 22 de marzo se rinde homenaje al agua (H2O), molécula formada por dos átomos de hidrógeno y uno de oxígeno.
En 1993, La Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas, declaró como el Día Mundial del Agua, con el objetivo de concientizar a la población sobre el uso correcto y responsable para así evitar su agotamiento ya que, es de mucha importancia para nuestra existencia y de todo el planeta.
Esta fecha se hizo para recordar la importancia de este líquido esencial. Sin dejar de mencionar que todas las actividades sociales y económicas dependen de gran cantidad de abastecimiento de agua. Se menciona que 2,200 millones de personas viven en carencia de agua potable.
Hoy en día, el agua atraviesa una gran amenaza por las grades demandas de la agricultura, industria, el cambio climático y el crecimiento de la población. Por ese motivo, se exige a la población que valoren el agua, su verdadero valor y como se puede proteger a este recurso vital.
La forma en que valoramos el agua determina cómo se gestiona y se comparte. El valor del agua es mucho más que su precio: el agua tiene un valor enorme y complejo para nuestros hogares, la cultura, la salud, la educación, la economía y la integridad de nuestro entorno natural. Si pasamos por alto alguno de estos valores, corremos el riesgo de gestionar mal este recurso finito e insustituible.
Finalmente, se invitó a los diferentes estados del mundo a consagrar este día, fomentando a través de producciones, difusión de documentales, conferencias, seminarios, exposiciones, entre otros.
