El 11 de mayo de 1971, nació el distrito de Villa el Salvador, llamado un distrito populoso, el cual forjó su existencia y progreso gracias al esfuerzo y empuje de sus habitantes. Se encuentra ubicado en el cono Sur de Lima Metropolitana.
En el año 1970, unas 80 familias se habían instalado en los terrenos ubicados en Pamplona. La intervención del padre Ruggiere de la parroquia del Niño Jesús de Ciudad de Dios y con los representantes del Ministerio de Vivienda y pobladores hubo un acuerdo en urbanizar la zona.
Se habían comprometido a entregar lotes con los servicios de agua, desagüe y luz eléctrica en un plazo de 90 días a cambio de que los pobladores no invadan más terrenos. El tiempo del plazo pasó y nunca cumplieron con lo prometido. Debido a eso, en 1971 se realizó una reunión de coordinación, donde se quedó en acordaron invadir nuevamente los terrenos de Pamplona, pero esta vez en forma organizada.
Y así ocurrió, el 28 de abril de 1971, cientos de personas tomaron nuevamente Pamplona, junto a la Panamericana Sur. No es hasta el 5 de mayo que las fuerzas policiales reprimieron violentamente a los pobladores, muriendo en el acto Edilberto Ramos, primer mártir. El 9 de mayo de ese mismo año, el monseñor Bambarén celebró una misa en el lugar. Al día siguiente, se inició el traslado de las primeras 2 300 familias invasoras, a las zonas de Micaela Bastidas, Mariano Melgar y Nueva Esperanza.
Finalmente, el 11 de mayo se inició el traslado de los pobladores a los arenales de la Hoyada Baja de Tablada de Lurín, naciendo de esa manera Villa El Salvador y el 1 de junion de 1983, Villa El Salvador fue reconocido como distrito mediante Decreto Ley Nº 23605.
