La Biblioteca Nacional del Perú (BNP) lanzó la campaña “Más bibliotecas para el Perú” con el objetivo de comprometer a las autoridades locales a la creación de nuevos establecimientos de lectura y de mejoramiento a los que ya existen. Puno y Tacna, serán las dos primeras regiones que participarán.

En el país solo existe 477 bibliotecas públicas municipales. Según la información del Sistema Nacional de Bibliotecas (SNB), esta cifra solo representa el 25% de lo que debería existir cómo mínimo a nivel nacional.

En el 2013, la Ley Nº 30034 menciona que todas las municipalidades provinciales y distritales deberían poner en marcha la creación de una biblioteca pública para sus ciudadanos.

Es preocupante que de los 477 establecimientos existentes no tengan una adecuada infraestructura y adicional a eso, que cuenten con dificultades en sus servicios para los lectores y que las regiones no cumplan la Ley establecida.

Por esa razón, la Biblioteca Nacional del Perú busca crear diferentes lugares de intercambio para capacitar y mejorar los servicios al ciudadano. Desde el año pasado se desarrollan los “Encuentros Departamentales de Bibliotecas” con la participación de 12 regiones. En esta oportunidad las dos primeras regiones que intervendrán será Puno y Tacna. Asimismo, busca diferentes bibliotecas del país para mejorar su situación.

En las Bibliotecas públicas se puede encontrar la información necesaria de diferentes temas, pero lamentablemente hay millones de peruanos y peruanas que no tienen acceso a libros y materiales bibliográficos.
