Según informes médicos, mencionan que el uso en la primera semana podría agravar el estado del paciente, llevándolo incluso hasta la muerte. La utilización y monitoreo de los medicamentos debe ser prescrita por un médico especialista.
El Instituto Nacional de Salud (INS) alertó a la comunidad sobre los riesgos que podría ocasionar el automedicarse con corticoides (dexametasona, prednisona, hidrocortisona, etc.) medicamentos para controlar los primeros síntomas de la Covid-19.
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), revistas como The Lancet, The New England Journal of Medicine, IDSA (Infectious Diseases Society of America), entre otras, indican sobre el uso de corticoides que solo mejora la condición de pacientes graves con asistencia de oxígeno, el mismo caso no se daría con los pacientes con cuadro leve, esto podría agravar su situación, provocando daños pulmonar y mortalidad.
Estos resultados se dieron tras analizar a 6,425 pacientes con covid-19 en diferentes etapas: un grupo con síntomas leves de la enfermedad, otro con oxígeno y un último con la enfermedad avanzada en ventilación mecánica (Estudio RECOVERY).
Manifestó que solo el médico especialista debe autorizar el uso de los corticoides, él tiene que hacer un seguimiento estricto sobre las dosis y alertar de las posibles reacciones adversas.
“Ante síntomas como fiebre, dolor de cabeza, tos o secreción nasal, el paciente debe aislarse y monitorear su saturación de oxígeno (>95%). De agravarse su situación, debe acudir a un especialista para seguir un seguimiento adecuado” alertó.
