La copa menstrual es un pequeño recipiente reutilizable que se inserta en la vagina durante la menstruación y que, además, tiene una vida útil de diez años. Este método se ha convertido en una alternativa económica y ecológica para las mujeres del mundo durante su periodo. Pese a sus beneficios, aún existen dudas sobre efectos negativos que pudiera tener debido a los mitos que se han creado en torno a ella.
“Es antihigiénica y causa infecciones”.
Falso. Es aún más limpia que un tampón o una toalla higiénica. Su material está pensado en respetar la flora y el PH vaginal, no produce afecciones o alergias dermatológicas y, al almacenar la sangre dentro de la vagina, evita que esta se oxide, como sucede con las toallas, previniendo malos olores.
Duele e incomoda.
Falso. Es posible que al principio sea un poco doloroso el proceso de ponerla y quitarla, pero no porque la copa sea incómoda sino porque es algo nuevo para el cuerpo. Una vez puesta en el lugar correcto, no se siente nada adentro. Es importante asegurarse de que esté puesta correctamente para evitar derrames.
“No se puede dormir o hacer deporte con ella”.
Falso. La forma de la copa menstrual está pensada para ajustarse perfectamente a los músculos vaginales de cada mujer, por lo cual, independientemente de los movimientos o las posiciones que tenga la usuaria, la copa recolecta el fluido sin riesgos.
“Interfiere con los métodos anticonceptivos”.
Falso. Este objeto no contiene ningún tipo de hormonas o sustancias que bloqueen el efecto de los anticonceptivos hormonales. Además de esto, los métodos intrauterinos se colocan dentro del útero, mientras que la copa se sitúa en la vagina. Estas dos partes del cuerpo están separadas por el cérvix, por lo cual no hay ninguna interferencia.
