La foliculitis es una infección aguda que afecta a la parte superior del folículo piloso, es decir, a la parte de la que procede el cabello y los pelos. Esta se manifiesta con la presencia de pequeños nódulos, furúnculos rojos llenos de pus cerca de los folículos pilosos, pequeñas costras o pelos encarnados. Pueden estar presentes en todo el cuerpo excepto en las manos, los pies y las membranas mucosas. Si no se tratan adecuadamente, quedan cicatrices, que se producen cuando el problema afecta a las capas más profundas de la piel.
El tratamiento depende de la gravedad de la infección. En los casos más importantes, hay que tomar antibióticos o antifúngicos de uso. La fototerapia es a veces una solución eficiente para el tratamiento de la foliculitis no infecciosa. También se pueden realizar cosas como:
- Hacer compresas tibias,
- Lavar la parte afectada dos veces al día con un poco de jabón antibacteriano,
- No afeitarse y compartir las toallas.
- Para deshacerse de la picazón, use una crema o loción de cortisona.
