También se conoce como embarazo extrauterino y se produce cuando éste se localiza fuera del útero, en la mayoría de los casos en una de las trompas de Falopio. El embarazo ectópico ocurre cuando el óvulo ha sido fertilizado por un espermatozoide, pero en vez de seguir su camino hacia el útero queda trabado en la trompa.

Debido al pequeño tamaño de éstas no es posible que un bebé pueda crecer y desarrollarse allí, siendo siempre necesaria la interrupción del embarazo. Si el embrión sigue creciendo produce una rotura en la trompa causando hemorragias que ponen en gran riesgo la salud de la mamá.

¿Cuáles son los síntomas de un embarazo ectópico?

El embarazo ectópico puede parecer normal al comienzo, con síntomas típicos de embarazo como la falta de un periodo menstrual, sensibilidad en los senos, fatiga y náuseas. Los síntomas de un embarazo ectópico incluyen los siguientes:

• Dolor intenso en la parte baja del abdomen, especialmente de un lado
• Sangrado vaginal o manchado
• Dolor en el hombro
• Gran sensación de debilidad, mareos o desmayos

La única manera de saber con certeza si tienes un embarazo ectópico es mediante una exploración médica. Tu médico o enfermero pueden hacerte un examen pélvico, un análisis de sangre o un ultrasonido para saberlo.
