En 1975, la Organización de las Naciones Unidas estableció que, el 08 de marzo de cada año, se conmemore el ‘Día de la Mujer’. Esta iniciativa tiene una historia y un fin que recuerda la lucha de las mujeres por el reconocimiento de sus derechos pero que, sobre todo, continúa en la búsqueda constante de la equidad de género.

Esta fecha tiene su origen en 1910, cuando las trabajadoras textiles alzaron su voz de protesta en reclamo a igualdad de condiciones laborales y salariales, derecho a voto y en contra de la explotación infantil.  Cientos de ellas resultaron heridas y hubo varias fallecidas por la brutalidad policial que intentaba detener el movimiento y que luego dio paso al primer sindicato femenino.

Posteriormente, el 25 de marzo de 1911 ocurrió un incendio en una fábrica en Nueva York en el que más de 100 mujeres perdieron la vida. Esta tragedia no fue en vano, después de este suceso las condiciones de las trabajadoras mejoraron.

¿ES ‘‘FELIZ DÍA’’ LA MEJOR MANERA DE CONMEMORAR EL DÍA INTERNACIONAL DE LA MUJER?

Considerando el origen de este día que conmemora la lucha por los derechos de las mujeres, a la gran mayoría no les resulta cómodo recibir un saludo, te comentamos por qué:

1. Esta fecha conmemora la búsqueda de igualdad de derechos de la mujer, no su condición como ser ‘‘femenino’’. Es decir, el objetivo es conmemorar el valor de las mujeres que pusieron la cara por lograr acceder a los mismos derechos que los varones: salud, educación y trabajo.
2. El 8 de marzo no debe volverse una fecha comercial. No se debe frivolizar esta fecha y convertirla en una excusa para entregar regalos.
3. ‘‘Cuando saludas a una mujer por ser mujer, vas contra la igualdad que tanto pides’’. Estas palabras de la página ‘‘Equipos feministas’’ exhortan a reconocer el valor detrás de la conmemoración y no solo el deseo de ser felicitada por ser mujer.

¿POR QUÉ SÍ DEBERÍAS SALUDAR EN ESTA FECHA?

Hoy en día, aún existen muchísimas mujeres que luchan por los derechos de sus pares, con su trabajo y valor en la sociedad. Estas mujeres merecen ser reconocidas por esta entrega. Los saludos nos invitan a polemizar al respecto, a compartir ideas y buscar soluciones que nos lleven a un mejor futuro para el género femenino.
