El 5 de abril de 1992, se dio un golpe de Estado, denominado como Fujimorazo, dictado por el presidente de la Republica de aquel entonces, Alberto Fujimori, a través de las Fuerzas Armadas.

Alberto Fujimori, decidió disolver el Congreso de la Republica y el 7 de abril publicaría la Ley de Bases del Gobierno de Emergencia y Reconstrucción Nacional. Esta fecha se recuerda como el cierre del Congreso, la detención de opositores y la toma de control de instituciones públicas y medios de comunicación.
En el Perú, ocurrió uno de los acontecimientos que marcó profundamente la historia de nuestro país, en todos los aspectos. El presidente Alberto Fujimori, a través de las Fuerzas Armadas, mediante la disolución violenta e inconstitucional de ambas Cámaras del Congreso de la Republica, la intervención del Poder Judicial y la toma de varios medios de comunicación, como: radiodifusoras, canales de televisión y periódicos. Adicional a eso, la hospitalización de algunos congresistas depuestos de sus investiduras.
El Congreso se opuso al consentimiento de ampliar los poderes para legislar sin fiscalización y citando una falta de cooperación, por dicho motivo Alberto Fujimori disuelve el Congreso de la Republica mediante una conferencia de prensa trasmitida a nivel nacional.
La Confederación General de Trabajadores del Perú (CGTP), la Confederación de Trabajadores del Perú (CTP) y otros sindicatos fueron víctimas de las intervenciones militares.
Los críticos comentan y mencionan sobre este hecho, fue el inicio de la corrupción y el debilitamiento institucional del Estado. Por otro lado, para los defensores de este hecho favoreció el asentamiento de las bases del desarrollo económico y el comienzo del fin del terrorismo en el país.
