El 12 de abril de 1539, nació Gómez Suárez de Figueroa, más conocido como el Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, en la ciudad de Cusco, personaje que escribió los famosos “Comentarios reales de los incas”.
Sus padres fueron el capitán español, Sebastián Garcilaso de la Vega y su madre, la noble palla Isabel Chimpu Ocllo, nieta del inca Túpac Yupanqui y sobrina de Huayna Cápac.
Los Comentarios reales de los incas, fue la obra más celebre cuya primera edición Aparicio en 1609. Dicha obra fue escrita en base a sus propios recuerdos de infancia y juventud.
La obra del Inca significó la unión de dos culturas y dos lenguas; dos universos culturales ante los cuales el propio autor se identificaba orgullosamente como mestizo “a boca llena”.
Su vida estuvo entre dos culturas. De niño y adolescente vivió en el Cusco, allí pudo conversar y ver a algunos de los últimos nobles incas, parientes suyos –como Cusi Huallpa– que recordaban claramente los últimos años de la civilización incaica.
Esta obra cumple con tratar de salvaguardar en la memoria las tradiciones de la civilización andina. Por esta razón es considerada una obra maestra hasta el punto de ser reconocido como parte de la literatura latinoamericana.
El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, fallece el 22 de abril de 1616 en la ciudad de Córdoba, España.
