La final de la Champions League entre el Manchester City y el Chelsea se disputará en el estadio do Dragão de Porto el 29 de mayo a las 14:00 hora peruana, en lugar del Atatürk de Estambul, para permitir la asistencia de 6.000 aficionados de cada equipo, informó hoy jueves 13 de mayo la UEFA.

«Tras la decisión del Gobierno británico de incluir a Turquía en su lista roja de destinos de viaje por la COVID-19, la celebración de la final allí habría supuesto que ninguno de los aficionados de los clubes pudiera viajar al partido. Después de un año sin que los aficionados entrasen en los estadios, la UEFA pensó que había que hacer todo lo posible para que los seguidores de los dos equipos finalistas pudieran asistir», rezaba el comunicado.

A ello se unió el ofrecimiento de la Federación Portuguesa de Fútbol (FPF) y las autoridades portuguesas para organizar el partido. La UEFA hizo «exhaustivos esfuerzos» para conseguir las exenciones necesarias a la cuarentena del Reino Unido, sin lograrlo y agradeció el trabajo tanto de la Federación Inglesa (FA) y las autoridades para «tratar de hacerlo realidad».

Al ser Portugal un destino de la lista verde para Inglaterra, los aficionados y jugadores que asistan a la final no tendrán que pasar la cuarentena a su regreso a casa. La UEFA lamenta y agradece «el trabajo que las autoridades futbolísticas turcas han realizado durante los dos últimos años para garantizar el éxito de la celebración de la final en Estambul» y estudiará urgentemente futuras oportunidades para la capital turca.

El aforo del estadio de Porto en la final se confirmará «a su debido tiempo en colaboración con las autoridades y la federación portuguesas». «Las 6000 entradas por club se pondrán a la venta lo antes posible a partir de hoy.  La venta de entradas al público en general comenzará el 24 de mayo de 2021», informó la UEFA.

Para el presidente de la UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, «privar a los aficionados de la posibilidad de ver el partido en persona no era una opción». «Una vez más, hemos recurrido a nuestros amigos de Portugal para que ayuden a la UEFA y a la Liga de Campeones, y estoy, como siempre, muy agradecido a la FPF y al Gobierno portugués por haber accedido a organizar el partido con tan poca antelación”, comentó el mandamás.
