Los cusqueños arrancaron muy bien las acciones, presionando en campo rival y obligando a los 'celestes' a cometer errores en su campo. Y aunque Cristal buscó mediante la tenencia de balón ejercer su juego, fue Romagnoli quien no desaprovechó la primera que tuvo para vencer al golero rimense.
El partido fue intenso, ambos lo buscaban. Liza lo tuvo en un par de ocasiones, pero respondió bien el bloque defensivo cusqueño y cuando estaban por irse a los vestuarios, un balón aéreo encontró bien ubicado a Riojas que no dudó en conectar el balón y dejar sin chance a su rival de turno.
En el complemento el ritmo no varió. Se turnaban las situaciones de peligro, pero no lograron ser finos en ese último toque. El partido parecía destinado al 2-0 y no fue hasta que se cobró un penal a favor de Cristal que Alejandro Hohberg, el mejor de los 'celestes', acortó las distancias aunque no fue suficiente.
