La Universidad San Martín venció este sábado 1-0 a Cienciano por la fecha 8 de la Fase en el Estadio Alejandro Villanueva. El cuadro ‘Papá’ logró el dominio en gran parte del encuentro, sin embargo, con mejoría y un único gol de Carlos Monges sobre los 68 minutos le bastó a los ‘santos’ para apoderarse de la cima del Grupo A.

Un encuentro que careció de efectividad de parte de Cienciano que sobre el primer tiempo fue claro dominador. No obstante, no contaron con el gran nivel del portero Diego Penny, quien terminó siendo la figura del partido sobresaliendo con grandes atajadas.

En ese sentido, apenas a los 15 minutos, Juan Romagnoli tuvo la primera ocasión con un disparo desde fuera del área. Asimismo, cuatro minutos más tarde, Kevin Sandoval también tuvo una chance pero el portero ‘albo’ lo dejó con el grito ahogado.

Ya para la segunda mitad, el libreto no cambiaría mucho y los cusqueños se mantuvieron de protagonistas; sin embargo, el nivel de Penny no desentonaría y el gol terminaba siendo una deuda para los dirigidos por Marcelo Grioni. Así, cuando se cumplían los 60 minutos, Adrián Ugarriza intentó desde fuera del área, pero; este terminó yéndose demasiado desviado.

La sorpresa en cambio se dio siete minutos después, cuando la San Martín ejecutó bien una acción colectiva en la que Kevin Ruíz sacó el centro y llegando providencial, Carlos Monges ganó en el salto a la defensa y marcó el único gol del encuentro.

Con este resultado, la Universidad San Martín sumó 16 puntos y tomó el primer lugar del Grupo A de la Liga 1. Por su parte, Cienciano se quedó en la segunda casilla con 14 unidades; lamentando no aprovechar el empate entre Ayacucho FC y Universitario.
