Con anotaciones de Luis Urruti y Alex Valera, el equipo 'crema' quedó a un solo partido de asegurar su boleto en la Copa Libertadores del año entrante.
El primer tiempo fue deslucido y con escasas ocasiones de gol para ambos equipos, pues los bloques defensivos se impusieron a los delanteros, por eso se fueron al descanso con el marcador en blanco.
Al reanudarse el partido, la “U” convirtió el primer tanto a los 3 minutos con un disparo raso desde fuera del área del delantero uruguayo Luis Urruti. Luego, a los 11 minutos, el goleador Alex Valera puso el segundo para el club “crema” aprovechando un mal despeje del portero rival. El equipo cusqueño pudo descontar a los 18 minutos con un gol de cabeza del defensa colombiano Anier Figueroa.
Con el triunfo, Universitario, dirigido por el técnico uruguayo Gregorio Pérez, suma 43 puntos en el acumulado y conserva el tercer lugar en el tablero general, mientras que Cusco FC, comandado por el entrenador argentino Marcelo Grioni, se queda con 22 puntos y en la última posición, peligrando su permanencia en la máxima categoría del fútbol peruano.
