Los 'cremas', con tres expulsados en el encuentro, rescataron un punto frente a los 'Zorros' que quedaron lejos de poder de adueñarse del Grupo A.
A los 30 segundos de empezado el encuentro, el mediocampista uruguayo Hernán Novick puso el primero de la tarde para la U al culminar una jugada colectiva. A los 30 minutos salió expulsado el jugador crema, Christian Flores y tres minutos más tarde los ayacuchanos empataron mediante un autogol de Brayan Velarde. Casi al final del primer tiempo, el equipo de Walter Fiori volteó el marcador con un severo golazo del uruguayo Leandro Sosa. El jugador 'charrúa' vio algo adelantado a Patrick Zubczuk y saco el derechazo, imposible a cualquier reacción posterior. De esta forma, el descanso ya iba dejando más de una emoción; dejando vaticinar lo que finalmente sería un partidazo.
Universitario consiguió el empate con gol de cabeza del defensa Federico Alonso a los 23 minutos del segundo tiempo, aunque este mismo jugador fue expulsado dos minutos después. Ayacucho volvió a estar adelante en el marcador con anotación del mexicano Othoniel Arce a los 74’.
Las cosas se le complicaron más para el equipo crema cuando expulsaron a Novick a los 80 minutos, dejando a la 'U' con ocho hombres. Sin embargo, Universitario logró el empate, a través de un penal convertido por Nelinho Quina a los 84 minutos, y luego pudo sostener el resultado de 3 a 3 hasta el final.
Con el empate, los dirigidos por Ángel Comizzo, alcanza los 14 puntos en el grupo A del Torneo Apertura, al igual que Ayacucho FC.
