El encuentro fue bastante parejo y se definió por desatenciones. Los del centro del país manejaron algo más el balón y ello hizo que tengan mayores chances para anotar, logrando desnivelar el marcador en la agonía del primer tiempo con un fuerte disparo de Julio Landauri.
Tras el descanso, Alianza Atlético se vio obligado a adelantar sus líneas y aprovechó que Alianza Universidad vio mermado su rendimiento con la salida de Jack Durán, quien había dejado el campo en el primer tiempo tras una descompensación que alarmó a todos.
Fue así como los norteños lograron equiparar las cosas en el complemento, con un tanto de penal del colombiano Víctor Perlaza.
El empate parecía ser un hecho y el resultado más justo, sin embargo, apareció Reimond Manco en el ocaso del partido para habilitar a Renato Espinoza que no fallaría y con una buena definición le daría la victoria a Alianza Universidad.
