Con goles de Santiago Córdoba y Edy Rentería, el 'Ciclón' se pone líder con puntaje perfecto.
El encuentro daría emociones a flor de piel apenas en el inicio con una falta dentro del área de Bazán contra Campodónico, permitiéndole a los chiclayanos ponerse adelante. El reclamo en cambio no se hizo esperar desde el banco cutervino, señalándole al juez principal que la falta fue fuera.
Finalmente Luis Garay determinó penal, que desde los doce pasos convertiría con toda categoría Santiago Córdoba. No obstante, la alegría no le duraría mucho a los dirigidos por José Soto ya que a los 17 minutos se verían igualados.
En esta ocasión la mano fue clara de Edy Rentería ante el intento de un centro de Comerciantes; que fue convertido por el capitán Pedro Bautista con un remate cruzado.
Ya en la parte complementaria, el libreto no cambiaría mucho y apenas a los 52 minutos, Juan Aurich podría ponerse adelante a través de un golazo. El colombiano Rentería encontraría revancha y tras ejecutar un perfecto tiro libre, el 2-1 llegó en el momento justo para manejar el encuentro.
No obstante, la figura de Carlos Quevedo salió a relucir y con su experiencia siempre fue un peligro cada vez que se sumó al ataque de Comerciantes Unidos. Pero si el atacante fue un dolor de cabeza, aún más el portero Quispe, quien siempre fue símbolo de seguridad en el arco chiclayano sacando las manos providencialmente.
La más clara del segundo tiempo precisamente estuvo en los pies de Barros (82'), que de manera increíble fallaría debajo del arco; perdiéndose lo que pudo ser el 2-2 definitivo.
Con este resultado, Juan Aurich se mantiene intacto y es líder en este arranque de la Liga 2 con seis puntos, mientras que Comerciantes Unidos cae a la quinta casilla con tres unidades.
