El cuadro rosado supo anular los circuitos de juego de su vecino chalaco, que no logró generar mayores ocasiones de gol y que por el contrario tuvo algunas complicaciones en su zona defensiva.
Fue así que Joao Villamarín se haría presente en el marcador en la primera parte, poniendo adelante a un Sport Boys que con toda justicia comenzaba a hacer suyo este duelo por la quinta fecha de la Fase 2.
La Academia Cantolao trató de reaccionar con algunos balones largos hacia Gabriel Leyes que luchó solo contra la defensa rosada, que casi siempre supo cómo controlarlo y anticiparlo para que no genere riesgo en su portería.
En tanto que Sport Boys hizo gala de una buena efectividad y teniendo nuevamente como protagonista a Villamarín, quien en el complemento fue el encargado de estirar la cuenta.
Sobre el final, Cantolao tuvo la chance de acortar las diferencias y darle algo de emoción al encuentro, pero estrelló en el palo un tiro desde el punto de penal.
