La Universidad Técnica de Cajamarca recuperó la sonrisa en la Fase 2 de la Liga 1 del fútbol peruano tras derrotar por la mínima diferencia a FBC Melgar en el estadio Miguel Grau del Callao. Gracias a este resultado, el cuadro cajamarquino sumó nueve puntos y trepó al octavo lugar, mientras que los arequipeños se mantienen en la tercera casilla. 

UTC y Melgar disputaron un entretenido y reñido encuentro en el recinto chalaco. Ambos equipos buscaron el arco contrario desde los primeros minutos de juego. Tal es así que las oportunidades de gol no tardaron en llegar. Jhonny Vidales tuvo la primera chance tras quedar mano a mano con Salomón Libman, pero su remate fue débil y terminó en manos del portero.

Minutos después, el cuadro rojinegro casi logra abrir la cuenta por intermedio de Alexis Arias, quien envió el balón al travesaño tras sacar un remate de cabeza. UTC respondió y Gerardo Gordillo desaprovechó una gran oportunidad luego de una mala salida de Carlos Cáceda.

Arias estuvo a punto de marcar el primero, pero otra vez el palo le negó la posibilidad. Para mala fortuna de los arequipeños, en la siguiente jugada apareció Blanco y marcó el 1-0 a favor de UTC a los 35 minutos de juego. Ya en el complemento, el partido se volvió a jugar con mucha intensidad.

Melgar mejoró muchísimo con el ingreso de Kevin Quevedo, sin embargo, no pudieron vencer la resistencia de Libman, quien mostró mucha solidez ante cada arremetida del cuadro 'Dominó'. Finalmente, el tiempo no dio para más y el árbitro marcó el final del juego.
