El popular 'Chino', quien en los dos últimos años estuvo a cargo de Deportivo Municipal, fue presentado oficialmente por el presidente Sergio Ludeña, con quien posó junto a la camiseta roja del cuadro imperial.
Víctor Rivera iniciará los entrenamientos con Cienciano, al que deberá poner a punto con miras a la Copa Bicentenario y la Fase 2, en los que la consigna del equipo es ser protagonista y lograr un cupo un torneo internacional del 2022.
El ‘papá’ fue protagonista gran parte de la Fase 1; sin embargo, cayeron en un pozo en las últimas tres fechas, donde no sumó punto alguno y con ello quedaron fuera de disputar la final. Esta seguidilla de malos resultados desencadenó el posterior alejamiento de Marcelo Grioni de la dirección técnica.
Víctor Rivera llega a Cienciano con Gerardo Carrillo como asistente técnico y Alfredo Bernal como preparador físico. Ellos esperan integrarse lo más antes posible a los entrenamientos. No se descarta que el estratega pueda solicitar algún refuerzo para el equipo.
